Bard of Birmingham to visit Worcester

The newly appointed Birmingham Poet Laureate, Stephen Morrison-Burke, will be coming to Worcester on Thursday 1st November 2012 to headline Worcester’s premiere spoken word event “Parole Parlate” at 7.30pm in Little Venice, when it celebrates its second anniversary.

Run by the Worcestershire Literary Festival, Parole Parlate, Italian for “Spoken Word”, is Worcester’s only dedicated monthly spoken word event which provides opportunities for writers and poets to read their work out to an audience and gain valuable feedback.  The event is now two years old and regularly attracts writers and poets from all over the UK.  Past performers have included Apples & Snakes poets A F Harrold, Ray Antrobus and Richard Tyrone Jones.

Also taking place on November 1st is “Poets In The Mist”, a selection of poems written by the participants of the first ever WLF Walk on the Malvern Hills on October 21st including performances by Suz Winspear and Polly Robinson.   Entry to the event costs £3.00 on the door on the night.

The Worcestershire Literary Festival has a strong relationship with the Birmingham Poet Laureate and is delighted to welcome Stephen Morrison-Burke to Worcester, who has been performing for just 18 months.  In that time has won multiple poetry slam competitions, been asked to support two separate internationally renowned poets whilst they visited Birmingham on their European tour and recently won the regional Poetry Slam Final in Cambridge which puts him through to the Hammer and Tongue National Poetry Slam Final, expected to take place in March 2013.

Lisa Ventura, Festival Director of the Worcestershire Literary Festival said: “Parole Parlate: The Spoken Word has had amazing support over the last two years and we are delighted to welcome Stephen Morrison-Burke on November 1st.  This monthly event aims to give writers and poet’s confidence in their work, as well as a much needed platform to promote themselves and gain exposure.  Do come along on November 1st and celebrate our second anniversary with us, there will even be cake.”

Stephen Morrison-Burke, Birmingham Poet Laureate 2012/2013 said: “I’m overwhelmed to have recently been named Birmingham Poet Laureate 2012/13. Over the next year I look forward to promoting poetry far and wide which all starts on November 1st at the same venue it began at Parole Parlate. Worcestershire Literary Festival 2013 is another event that I’m very excited about, having been a part of the festival since it began in 2011.”
